Committee on Diversity and Outreach in Psychology (CDOP) Workgroups
Standards for accreditation developed by the American Psychological Association (https://www.apa.org/ed/accreditation/standards-of-accreditation.pdf), in their Standard II.B.1. Discipline-Specific Knowledge, Profession-Wide Competencies, and Learning/Curriculum Elements Required by the Profession, accreditation requirements state that students must demonstrate competence in individual and cultural diversity. Further, to ensure that this standard is met, accredited programs must demonstrate that all students in an accredited program show competence related to individual and cultural diversity in their course work, research, and practical training.
Similarly, the NASP Standards for Graduate Preparation of School Psychologists (https://www.nasponline.org/standards-and-certification/nasp-2020-professional-standards-adopted), require that “all aspects of human diversity and social justice are recognized as strengths that are valued and respected throughout the school psychology program”. To support compliance with this standard, NASP-accredited programs must demonstrate that human diversity and social justice are reflected in their philosophy/mission, goals, and objectives for candidate competencies, curricula, clinical training, and other program components (1.5. Program Standard: School Psychology Program Context and Structure).
CDOP was developed to meet these training goals through the work of CDOP Working Groups:
Training Workgroup: Develop and promote activities to draw attention to the ways in which we can incorporate a greater understanding of diversity into our roles as researchers, clinicians, and teachers.
