Request a Field Trip

Field trips need to be scheduled in advance. Contact Event Coordinator, Amy Hughes at amy@friendsofhilltop.org or 225-767-6916.

What to Expect

Students will gather on the open-air pavilion for an introduction given by Hilltop staff. The introduction will cover a brief history of Hilltop and why we are here, what the students may observe during their visit, and general rules and guidelines. Following the introduction, groups are on their own to explore the site. We do not provide guided tours. Most field trips visits are about 2-2 ½ hours.

Activities for Visit

See the links to the right for suggested activities to do during your visit.

Chaperones

Chaperones are required for all visits. The recommended chaperone to student ratio is:
• One chaperone per five pre-K to elementary school students
• One chaperone per 12 middle to high school students
Additional chaperones are always welcome.

Food and Picnics

Groups are welcome to enjoy lunch or a snack on the open-air pavilion or on the grounds. Hilltop does not have any picnic tables. All trash generated from school snacks, lunches, and picnics must be put in the provided trash cans.

Arboretum Etiquette

Please review the Visitors Rules before you arrive and communicate those to your chaperones.

Cancellation, Rescheduling, Rain Policy

Field trips may be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances by either the Friends of Hilltop Arboretum or school staff. If you need to reschedule or make changes, please contact us as soon as possible.
