Biography

Dr. Patricia Vigil is a versatile coloratura soprano celebrated for her dynamic stage presence and vocal agility. Her performances have graced numerous opera companies across the United States, including the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Intermountain Opera, The New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra, Asheville Lyric Opera, Concert Opera of New Jersey, Ridge Light Opera, Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, Lancaster Opera Company, Utah Festival Opera, Opera Delaware, Baton Rouge Opera, Opera Iowa, Des Moines Metro Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Southwest, Cleveland Opera on Tour, and Opera Theater of Philadelphia.

Dr. Vigil's repertoire showcases a range of complex roles: Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Susanna and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, the Fire in L’enfant et les Sortilèges, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, Madame Goldentrill and Miss Silverpeal in The Impresario, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Héro in Béatrice et Bénédict, and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute

Her exceptional talent has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation and the Diamond Award from the Vera Scammon International Voice Competition. 

Dr. Vigil's academic credentials are equally impressive. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of New Mexico, followed by a Master of Music in Performance from Louisiana State University. She furthered her studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, obtaining both a Professional Studies Certificate in Opera and a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree. Her doctoral dissertation, titled "Hormones and the Female Voice: An Exploration of the Female Hormonal Cycle from Puberty to Menopause and How it Affects the Vocal Apparatus," reflects her dedication to vocal health and pedagogy.

In addition to her performance career, Dr. Vigil is a committed educator. She has taught voice, diction, and vocal pedagogy at institutions such as Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University in Abilene, Texas Woman’s University in Denton, and currently serves at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Her professional affiliations include membership in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).
