Graduate Scholars Program Now Accepting Applications

4/28/2025.

BATON ROUGE - Applications are now being accepted for LSU’s Service-Learning Graduate Scholars Training Program, which offers professional development and training to LSU graduate students interested in experiential education and hands-on learning that benefits the community. Applications are due August 15, 2025.

The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership, or CCELL, offers the Graduate Scholars Program to encourage the development of service-learning curricula that will impact instruction, promote the institutionalization of service-learning courses in every department, advance the objectives of the LSU Scholarship First Agenda, and prepare graduate students in a range of disciplines for future careers involving civic engagement.

All LSU graduate students are eligible. Graduate students in all disciplines, especially those from disciplines that currently do not offer service-learning, are encouraged to apply. Scholars with varying degrees of familiarity and experience with service-learning are welcome.

Graduate students selected for the program are expected to attend a weekly seminar for five weeks in Fall 2025 where they, along with other Scholars, plan and discuss course design, civic responsibilities of universities, partnerships, liability, assessment, and reflection.

Scholars will develop a service-learning course syllabus for implementation during 2026 or 2027. Scholars may choose to incorporate service-learning into a previously designed course or to develop a new course that includes service-learning. Students serving as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) for faculty teaching or developing a service-learning course may also apply.

Each Scholar will receive a certificate of completion after submitting a short report at the conclusion of the semester in which the service-learning class is taught. An application with instructions is available by clicking the button below. For more information, email the LSU Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL) at ccell@lsu.edu
